Bear notes, back in time and on the move.

Bear is probably the best note-taking app out there.

Like a lot of people, I keep coming back to it.

A small fox in a red scarf happily pulls the one red notebook from a row of grey ones, hearts floating above it

I ran into two deal-breakers. The first: no version history.

The fox leans a paw on a big backspace key by mistake, and scribbles fly off the page of its notebook
Press backspace at the wrong moment,
A cheerful little robot scribbles over the fox's notebook with a pencil while the fox looks on, worried
or let an AI edit a note and get it wrong,
Pages torn from the notebook blow away, and the fox reaches after them too late
and that text is gone.

The second: no way to reach selected notes with AI while on the move, and no automatic cloud backup.

The fox kneels with its paws pressed together, hoping, and has waited so long that spider webs have grown over it

Inspired by others in the Bear community, I built Powerbear to address both.

The fox at a small workbench, tongue out, hammering together a homemade box

The free version sits in the menu bar and saves every change to every note.

The fox walks back along a winding path, picking up the pages laid along it
A closer look at the app is coming.

Start with free version history. You might find it useful too.

The fox hands the box it built to the rabbit, who reaches for it happily

For $1.99 a month or $12 a year, access selected notes on the move through ChatGPT or Claude, with automatic cloud backup.

Those cloud features are optional. Version history remains free.

The fox holds its box open while the rabbit looks inside with a magnifying glass

If it helps you, tell me what works and what doesn’t.

The rabbit hands the fox a big star, and both of them are delighted
